Artist Statement
As I began the balsa wood project, I was unsure of what direction to go in, so I started to cut my wood into strips. After having a variety of sizes in balsa wood strips, I made the decision to make my first piece to demonstrate repetition. I formed a variety of square sizes and played with their placement for hours before settling on the final design presented below.

Artist Statement
My inspiration for this piece originally began with coral reefs and through its construction it expanded and evolved. The balsa wood pieces are slightly bent to enhance their already organically sculpted shape. The wood was also indented to add a rough texture. The wood glue has a smooth texture and is extremely flexible, allowing for it to be draped over the forms in a seemingly unplanned and random manner. In its construction repetition is also used through the repeated organic shapes in an unpredictable pattern. Overall, the piece was intended to be read as texture from both far away and through touch interaction.

Artist Statement
Scale and Focal Point inspired the sculpture design and title of this work. Repetition within the work was very important, but the main focus were the two principles aforementioned. By using the same tessellation at varying sizes in masking tape and hot glue, scale and repetition were demonstrated within the piece. The paper at the center was created through ripping small pieces and slowly gluing them together. By placing it at the center of the sculpture and using an organic shape against the geometric forms, a clear focal point was created.

As a grouping, the three small sculptures are designed to cohesively work together through the use of repetition. It was my intent to design them with unique characteristics that would rarely be paired in a group, yet work together through the use of a single principle or element of design.
